In Indian lore the hantpare is a vampiric spiritthat attacks people from the safety of its home on the astral plane (see ASTRAL VAMPIRE). Described as looking like a three-foot-long leech, it reaches into our dimension and, invisibly, attaches itself to an open wound on a person, draining away his blood.
